Rubble

When Walls Fall Down

The process of awakening to what God wants for us starts with realizing that the things of this world are some of the ‘protective’ walls that easily crumble and create rubble that weighs us down. Sometimes, we continue living in this rubble because it is all we know, and it feels completely normal.

Hurts of Life

We can go through life burying hurts by ignoring them, tolerating them, and hoping to forget them. These hurts cause us to follow unhealthy paths. Hurts can be:

  • Tragedies or injustices

  • Abuse, trauma

  • Neglect, rejection

  • Family dysfunction

  • Unhealed Hurts

  • Unmet Needs

  • Unresolved Issues

False Comforts

Unhealthy reactions to hurts will build up walls of false protection mechanisms that provide temporary comfort but can be a long-term trap.

  • Physical Addictions: drugs, alcohol, etc.

  • Pleasures from sex, porn, relationships

  • Unhealthy focus on food, self-image, or exercise

  • Obsessive interactions with social media, gaming, current events, etc.

  • Self harm, suicidal ideations

  • Acquiring possessions, status

Emotional Walls

Allowing emotions to control us builds walls of tension in relationships by either our attempts at controlling others or ignoring them. Motivations that destroy relationships include:

  • Fear

  • Anger

  • Guilt and shame

  • Mistrust

  • Victimization

  • Dominance, intimidation, and manipulation
